Are you depressed?

Depression is pretty common. If you’ve never suffered any symptoms yourself, you probably know someone else who does. Beyond Blue claims that “around one million Australian adults and 100,000 young people live with depression each year.” According to Better Health, only about 50% of Australians who are depressed are actually professionally diagnosed so the number might be even higher.

So what are some of the signs that you may depressed?

There is no definitive test (such as a blood test) that can tell you whether you’re depressed. Key symptoms include feeling unhappy most of the time, loss of interest and failure to enjoy anything, difficulty making decisions, tiredness and fatigue, change of appetite and weight amongst others.

Beyond Blue has several helpful online checklists which can be used by professionals or individuals as a guide:

Interactive Depression Checklist – DSM
Sphere Questionnaire
Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10)

There are a range of forms of depression, including major/clinical depression, psychosis, dysthymia (a milder form of depression that can last for many years) and bipolar.

I do see quite a number of clients who are experiencing depression-like feelings. It’s not surprising, as I had such fabulous results from Kinesiology for depression myself. Fabulous enough to spend $20k and every second weekend for three years to study it myself…!

Some of my clients haven’t been diagnosed with depression but show signs. Some have sought medical help and made a decision to either take or not take anti-depressants. All are seeking to understand the deeper reasons as to why they are feeling they way they are and move forwards.

Kinesiology and depression

Depression often follows a period of stress. Kinesiology can help identify particular events and circumstances that have contributed to current feelings of depression – and diffuse the stress around these original causes. Often the emotions or negative feelings associated with these events are still being held by the body.

Kinesiology can help to balance physical aspects of the depression, including neurotransmitters (brain chemicals), hormones, muscles (back and shoulder pain are common), digestion and immune function, along with emotional, mental or spiritual aspects.

Your pattern of imbalance will always be unique to you, making the personalised approach of Kinesiology very helpful. It definitely helped me and has also helped many of my clients.

If you’re depressed? Kinesiology might be one of the things that helps you.
